BELGIAN ASSISTANCE.
The Mayor desires us to stats that he has received several promises of definite sums to be paid periodically to the Belgian Relief Fund. In publicly acknowledging these communications, the Mayor desires to point out that after the conference of representative men with the Premier, in order to ascertain what the Government intends to do in the matter, the local fund will be properly organised.
We have received a communication from the promoters of the Palmerston Belgian fete, to be held on the show grounds at Palmerston on the 24th iust., with a request to boom the effort locally. We will do so with pleasure, and hope that any local people who find it convenient to v ’’ Palmerston on that day uelp to
forward the effort. We would also remind the local public that Foxton is expected to do its part, and while assistance to outside tuactions is commendable, and in the past has been generous, such general help should not militate against Foxtou's particular effort.
