HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A well-attended meeting of the local Horticultural Society’s committee was held last night. Mr G. H. Stiles (president), occupied the chair and in expressing pleasure at seeing such a fine attendance hoped that the year would be a successful one for the society’s operations. The President and Secretary’s action in purchasing tables was endorsed.

The resignation of Mrs Harvey from the committee was received with regret and Mr and Mrs Gal* land were unanimously elected to till the vacancies on the committee.

A hearty vote of thanks wa>; passed to Mr Gray for judging the school garden plots. The following judges were appointed for the autumn show : Pot plants, cut blooms, fruit and vegetables, Mr Shailer (Palmerston) ; farm produce. Mr Wighfon (Palmerston) ; dairy produce, cookery and home industries, Mr F. O. Smith (Levin) ; decorative, Mrs Prouse (Levin). Stewards,— Pot plants, Mr Whibley ; cut blooms, sections jS to as, Miss Signal; do 29 to 45, Mrs J. and Miss Robinson ; do 46 to 61, Miss Speirs ; fruit, vegetables and farm produce, Messrs Jas. Newth and Henderson; dairy produce and cookery, Mesdames Jas, Robinson and Kempster ; home industries, Miss Neylon; decorative, Mesdames C. Robinson and Renton ; door stewards, Messrs Kempster, Lumsdeu and Henderson ; tea room, Mrs Henderson ; sweets stall, Mrs Wood, vice Misses Lumsden; supervising steward, Mr Geo. Barber; sheep guessing, Messrs Boyes and Kirkley ; competition committee, Messrs Boyes, Kellow and Claris ; hat trimming, Mrs Boyes and Mr Hornblow ; Punch and Judy side show., Mr P. Robinson. Two small accounts were passed for payment. It was decided to ask Mr Betty to again provide orchestral selections. Messrs Bullard and Lumsden were appointed special stewards in the cookery class and Mr Jackson cut blooms.
