MISS FLORENCE YOUNG
“THE UNCROWNED (JUEEN OF THE AUSTRALIAN THEATRE.” The following extract from the Sydney Daily Telegraph’s report of a big patriotic matinee held in Sydney will give some slight idea of the popularity with Australian audiences of Miss Florence Young; “Perhaps the most striking incident of the afternoon was the re-appearauce of Miss Florence Young, who has been absent from the Sydney stage for a while. Her appearance was the signal for a remarkable demonstration in which every part of the house joined, the gallery shouting themselves hoarse and waving flags of patriotic design. A voice was heard through the din, exclaiming ‘You can’t be beat, Florrie,’ and this added fuel to the fire of enthusiasm for the favourite, and it was some time before Miss Young was allowed to proceed with her song. Obviously unnerved by the warmth of her welcome, Miss Young gathered confidence, however, and sang delightfully, ‘The Song of the Soul,’ from ‘The Climax.’ ” Miss Young and her company of ex-prindpals from the Royal Comic Opera Company will appear at the Town Hall on Saturday next in “The Climax.” Seats may be reserved at the Town Clerk’s office.
