THE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE.

FINE SPECTACLE AT

TRENTHAM

The march past by the Expeditionary Force at the Trenlham races yesterday was an interesting scene, and will long be remembered by those who witnessed it. On the first and only occasion the public were afforded an opportunity of seeing in one body the 3rd, 4th and sth reinforcements and the Samoan Relief Force. Close on 4000 men took part altogether, and there was loud cheering from the stands and enclosures as the troops paraded round the course. The men were well tanned by their open air life, and general admiration was expressed at their apparent physical fitness. Headed by the band playing rousing marital music, they swung round the course, with rhythmic action — line after line of khaki clad soldiers in one vast circle extending considerably over-a mile. After the parade, which was a most interesting one, and brought home to onlookers the realisation of the fact that New Zealand is endeavouring to play the game through the present crisis which the Empire is passing, the officers and men marched to the northern end of the people’s enclosure. Here they were the guests ot the Wellington Racing Club at luncheon.
