MUNICIPAL PICTURES.
The orogramme for to-night is one that should draw the usual bumper house that is accorded to the above pictures on any special occasion. The star comedy film, “The Knockout,” is a two reel Keystone, starring Keystone Fatty and Charles Chaplin. As a pugilist Fatty is more than a white hope—be is the world’s champion elephant weight. He lilts scale at twenty stone aud is willing to take on anyone double his weight if he can find him. Charles Chaplin is the referee and it is his boast that he is the most crooked referee in the wide world. The two reels contain more laughter to the square inch than any other Keystone film containing Fatty and Chanes Chaplin. The other items supporting this grand comedy are ; “Pathe Gazette,” topical; “Sparrow of the Circus,” drama ; On the Maritime Alps,” col. scenic; “A Pair of Cuffs,” drama ; “Wireless from the War,“comic; “Battle of the Weak,” drama. This tells how Paula Thurston attracts the attention of Wallace Griscom, head of the store in which she is employed. Griscom is a favoured suitor for the hand of Helen Mason, who considers him a model young man. Becoming infatuated with Paula, he promotes her to a position as clerk in his private office. Agnes, her room mats, has forebodings, but says nothing. Griscom showers attentions upon her. Horror stricken, she indignantly repulses him, and the following day is discharged. Later, unable to find work, Agnes generously pays her room rent, and Paula, rather than be a burden to the girl, leaves their humble apartment. How she finally regains happiness is ably illustrated in the picture. Another war topical, “The Retreat from Autvverp,” will also be screened.
The other special programme which has been obtained for tomorrow night should prove as big a draw as that of to-night. The star drama. “One of Our Girls,’ is 5000 ft. iu length and one that has drawn large houses wherever it has been shown. It is a celebrated drama which so closely interweaves the interests of two mighty nations, presents Hazel Dawn, the artistic little siar triumph iu the title role of “ihe Pink Lady.’’ In “One of Our Girls” Hazel Dawn portrays the stellar role, otherwise Kale Shipley. The subject teems with patriotic interest, and the thrilling situations, combined with the inspiring sacrifice of the plucky and quick-witted American girl in behalf of her little French cousin, furnish all the elements necessary to the successful screen drama. The other items are : “A Mountain Pass,” col. scenic ; “Tangled Tangoists,” comic : “Pathe’s War Gazette,” topical ; “The liver Gallant Marquis,” comic. Particulars ot Saturday’s and Monday’s programmes will be given in next issue.
