RECRUITING MEETING.
There was an attendance °£ about 30 at the meeting convened by the Mayor and held in the Coronation Hall supper-roon oa Tuesday night, for the purpose of -1 furthering the recruiting movement.
The Mayor, who presided, said the meeting was called for the purpose of considering steps to be taken to induce recruiting in the district. The Home Tand had sent a request ,for more men and be felt sure that New Zealand would answer the call promptly. He had invited Major Ashworth to the meeting in order that any information required could be promptly given. Major Ashworth’s official position made it impossible tor him to address the meeting, but he would answer any questions. Dr. Mandl also spoke on the necessity of immediate enrolling, aud considered that the meeting should pledge itself to provide at least 50 recruits from the Foxton district, including Moutoa and Himatangi.
After some discussion it was < decided on the motion of Mr Bullard, seconded by Mr Boyes, that the meeting form itself into a cbmmittee to further the recruiting movement in every way possible. Out of those present at the meeting the following gentlemen stated that they bad already volunteered for service: Messrs .M. Arm- f strong, G. G. Bell, H. A. Proct?r, S. T. Saville, L. McAllister, S W. McDermott, George Jeffery, and H. Hamer.
The Mayor stated that Mr E. Greig had volunteered, but could not be accepted as he was unable to pass the medical test. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to Major Ashworth and the chairman and with cheers for the King.
