CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor-)
Sir.—Until two weeks ago there was no necessity for any worker’s wife to pay 8s 6d for her flour or more than 10s gd for her sugar. The grocers do not control the markets for flour and sugar, “ One who knows ” is quite right in saying that goods can be obtained as cheaply in Foxton on same terms as elsewhere. A friend of mine who sent a large order away and received same in good condition, compared the actual cost with a local quotation, and found he had lost 3s 4d on the transaction. The price quoted for kerosene for instance is higher in Palmerston than here. On the whole, sir, worker’s wife has very little to complain of and much to be thankful for, and the local erocers have done much in the past by assisting the workers wives and children. —lam etc,, Work-ER.
