THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
The weather, locally, is very boisterous and electors are not wasting time in going to and from the polling booth, situated at the State school. The arrangements in the class-rooms are cf a somewhat primitive nature. At the gateway stands the representatives of each candidate and those of NoLicense and the Trade. Voter’s names are ticked off as they pass through the gate. These unofficial gentlemen have a very unenviable task, standing without shelter in the wind and rain, but they appear to be as cheerful as the Tommies in the trenches. All the available motor cars have been requisitioned and a number of vehicles to bring voters to the poll, and they are speeding round the town iu all directions, and with such provision very tew should fail to record their votes.
The contest up to the present has been conducted in a very fair spirit. The first results should arrive at about 7 o’clock. All returns will be posted outside this office without delav.
