The programme shown at- the Municipal Pictures ou Saturday last was of a first-class order, and much appreciated by a good audience. Every item was so realistic and so well screened that it would be invidious to mention any one picture more than another. About a fortnight ago a raid was made ou the Chinamen’s garden at Himatangi, and a large quantity of vegetables stolen. On Thursday night last a return visit was made, the thief again got away with several sacks of mixed vegetables. This splendid star will be supported by a number of other good films, “The Royal” was very well patronised on Saturday night, when another most entertaining and instructive programme was screened. The star drama, ‘‘The Deputy Sheriff’s Star,” was one of those stirring and exciting west dramas, which are always warmly received by the audience, and was magnificently acted by the “star” artists of the well-know n Reliance Co., the story was one of selfsacrifice and kept those present deeply interested throughout. The local Horticultural Society will have to take steps in future to protect the exhibits from being commandeered by certain individuals acting without authority. If this is uot done, a number of exhibitors will, in future, refuse to compete. On Friday night the President (Mr Stiles) stated that all unclaimed exhibits in certain sections would be sold and the proceeds, as in the past, handed to the Society. Immediately following this, the cut bloom and cookery sections were rushed, and exhibits removed without any reference to those in charge. This disgracelul proceeding was indulgd in by people who should know better. Further, certain articles in the needlework division were tossed about by certain young people whose horse-play was quite out of place. The president intends to take steps which will end this sort of thing in the future, and requests us to state that the fancy-work section iu future will be wired off to prevent the public handling exhibits.
