WAR NEWS.
After a comparative lull in the operations in the Franco-Belgian theatre, fighting has been renewed along the coast line in the vicinity of Nieuport and Westende, in Belgium, where the Germans have been attacked from both land and sea, the Franco-British Fleet cooperating with the army in successful operations. North of Ostend, the German sea base at Zeebrugge, where immense quantities of military and naval stores had been collected by the enemy, has been unexpectedly visited by a British squadron, which effectively shelled the place, and reduced the shipyard —were six submarine boat sections which had been railed from Germany—the wharves, military trains and stores of all kinds, to a scrap heap.
German submarines unsuccessfully attempted an attack on the warships, but were eluded, and the fleet ultimately left in safety. In the Eastern theatre the Russian cavalry, following up the great victory at the battle of Lodz, is harrying the retreating Germans to the frontier, while along the rest of the great battlefront in Poland further Russian successes have taken place.
