As to “ distraction ” what party professing moderate views, unless wholly distracted, would indulge in the colossal lolly of sacrificing its principles and allying itself to a band of extremists such as the Social Democratic Party, the political branch of the Red Federation ! —Dominion. At one of Mr Fred Pirani’s suburban meetings a questioner asked how much Mr Massey had made out of the large purchases of wheat he had recently carried out for the Dominion. “Oh,” retorted Mr Plrani, “you are thinking of oats —not wheat!” The laughter which greeted the sally proved that the shot had gone home. Two little boys were left in charge of the home .while their parents went to church on Sunday night. The earthquake rattled the house and contents, and scared the youngsters. The iuterrment will take place at Foxton, probably tomorrow. In common with the Foxton public we extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives. There was another excellent programme of pictures screened at “The Royal” on Saturday evening to an appreciative audience. The star drama was by the ever popular Edison Co. entitled, “The Double Shadow,” and it was indeed a well mounted and magnificent play of great power, and held the individual attention of the audience throughout. A very interesting industrial film was that depicting “The Manufacture of a Briar Pipe,” also “The Topical Budget,” which contained some interesting views of H.M.S. Warspite which was of exceptional interest owing to the present crisis and was enthusiastically received. The remaining portion of the programme comprised two very interesting dramas, and two exceedingly funny comics, and taking the programme on the whole, it was of a most entertaining nature and quite up to the usual high standard maintained at “The Royal.” Having just landed an up-to-date supply of catering utensils from England, Mr M. Perreau is now in a position to specialise in catering, which will be undertaken in any part of the district.*
