MR. SNOWDEN’S ADDRESS.

TOWN HALL, MONDAY

NIGHT,

Mr Philip Snowden, M.P., will deliver his address in the Town Hall on Monday night, and it goes without saying that he will attract a bumper house. As this is the only centre in the Otaki electorate where Mr Snowden will speak, a number of visitors from other parts have signified their intention to be present. We are asked to state that no seats will be reserved. We are informed that it is probable Mrs Snowden will accompany her husband. If this is correct, then a double treat is in store for the public. Mr Snowden was a civil servant, but since 1893 has given himself wholly to journalism, lecturing, and politics. He has also served England on Royal Commissions (on Canals and Waterways, and on the Civil Service). In 1906 he succeeded in winning the Blackburn seat tor the Socialist Party, and has held the seat in the House of Commons since, and for three years he was Chairman of' the Independent Labour Party—no sinecure and no small honour, that. Both visitors are ardent sociologists, are firm believers that drink is the bane of the classes as well as the masses, and they are platform speakers of the very front rank. Mrs Snowden ranks amongst the first flight of the orators of her sex in England, and she is a suffragette.
