THE OTAKI SEAT.
SELECTING THE GOVERN KENT CANDIDATE.
Those present at the meeting of delegates held at Levin on Saturday last and the branches represented were as follows ;—Messrs J. H. Murray (Levin), R, R. Harris (Paraparaumu),' J, Silvester (Waikanae), H. Bond (Rikiorangi), M. Carkeek (Otaki), W. H. Karsten (Manakau), John Kebbell (Ohau), E. Law (Shannon), J. R. Whyte (Tokomaru), C. F, Johnston (Moutoa), B. G. Gower (Foxton), W. Jewell (Rangiotu), W. Amon (Glen Oroua), H. Vile (Oroua Downs). There were also present Mr A. A. Paape (general organiser) and Mr F. Rowe (acting-secretary). The organiser reported that since last meeting, and acting under instructions, he had addressed meetings throughout the electorate, and as a result seventeen branches of the League had been formed. As representative of the party, he had met with a good reception, and he felt confident that the Otaki seat would go to the Reform Party at next election. There were two aspirants lor the seat, viz,, Messrs Byron Brown and W. H. Field- The former in a communication to Otaki and Paraparaumu branches intimated that he would stand aside if Mr Field undertook to do so in the event of the voting going against him. Mr Field intimated that he would abide by the decision of the delegates. A ballot was then taken and resulted as follows: Field 14, Brown I. When the motion was put Mr Field was unanimously selected as the Reform candidate. The delegates then signed Mr Field’s nomination paper. Votes of thanks were passed and the meeting terminated with the singing of the National Anthem by all present.
