HUNTLEY DISASTER.
RELIEF FUND.
We shall be pleased to receive and publicly acknowledge any local contributions on behalf of those who have suffered through the loss of breadwinners in the . Huntley disaster. We have received the following circular from Mr A. H. Cooper, chairman, and Messrs L. A. M. Rearden and J. Read, joint secretaries of the Fund : “In order to make ample provision for the dependents of those who lost their lives in the recent catastrophe at Huntly, it was decided at a representative meeting of Labour men held in Wellington on September 17th, to inaugurate a national fund, to be known as the Huntly Disaster Relief Fund. To ensure the success of this most worthy project, the assistance cf your valuable paper is sought. It has been decided that the headquarters of the Fund be in Wellington, from which centre the National Committee will, acting upon the advice of a representative local committee in Huntly, administer assistance to all entitled to it. The Committee teels certain that, despite the heavy donations made to the Patriotic Fund, the people of New Zealand will liberally respond to assist the widows and orphans whose breadwinners were snatched by death under such tragic circumstances.” The Mayor has also received an appeal and a subscription list from Huntly in connection with same, and has headed the list with a donation of £1 is. Subscriptions may be left at this office, and will be acknowledged as received.
