FOXTON CRICKET CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Foxton Cricket Club was held on Thursday evening. There was a fairly good attendance and Mr F. D. Whibley occupied the chair. The annual report was read and adopted. During the season 18 matches were played, 12 of which were won, five lost and one drawn. The club competed for the Hall Shield (Saturdays) and Bevan Cup (Wednesdays) and was successful in winning the latter trophy. In this competition six matches were played, five being won and the remaining match lost by the narrow margin of three runs. The medal presented for the highest batting average during the season was won by Mr Tullett. From a financial point of view the club’s operations have not been successful, the season closing with a debit balance of £l odd. During the season a considerable quantity of material had been purchased and the travelling expenses were very heavy on individual members. In conclusion it was suggested that an attempt should be made to run a competition locally and thus do away with the heavy travelling expenses. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : President, Mr G. H. Stiles ; vicepresidents, Messrs W. Nye, A. Hawke, F. Symes, and W, E. Bullard ; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. Burgess; captain, Mr Cook ; committee, Messrs Claris and Tullett and officers ex-offiicio. Special mention was made of the excellent services rendered the club by the energetic secretary, Mr C. Burgess, and an appreciation of his services was ordered to be made in the minute book. The subscription was fixed at ten shillings; juniors (under 18 years of age) to be admitted to membership on payment of five shillings. Messrs Whibley and Burgess were appointed to represent the club at a meeting of delegates to be convened for the purpose of forming an association to control a local competition. The opening of the season was fixed for Wednesday, October 7th, when a match, married v. single, will be played, the teams to be drawn from the Foxton and Motuiti Clubs. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr W. E- Bullard presented Mr Tullett with a medal, won by him for the highest batting average. From present indications the forthcoming season should be a very successful one. A club has been formed at Motuiti and it is probable that Himatangi and Moutoa will also nominate teams in the competition. The Foxton club is endeavouring to put two teams in the field.
