LADY LIVERPOOL FUND.
A meeting of the Lady Liverpool Fund Committee and Helping Hand Committee was held in the Council Chambers last night. The Mayor presided over a good attendance. The Mayor stated that the Lady Liverpool Fund had closed and the total amount contributed to the fund was 9s. The Mayor said the amount contributed to this fund was very satisfactory for an almost industrial community. The public could now concentrate its attention to the Patriotic and Helping Hand Funds, Foxton, unlike many other districts in the Dominion had not the same backing of wealthy settlers. Some had ' already responded liberally and he had no doubt that others would follow suit. The district would be faced with the unemployed difficulty and contributions to the Helping Hand Fund would be welcomed and the fund would be judiciously administered. He had pleasure in stating that Messrs Levin and Co. had contributed to the local Patriotic Fund and Mr C. Robinson had also forwarded a cheque for £lO for the same fund. Several contributions had also been made to the Helping Hand Fund- In connection with the latter an entertainment would be held in the Town Hall at an early date and the proceeds would be in aid of the fund. It was resolved to setup a committee to administer the Helping Hand Fund and all cases would be carefully investigated. It was decided not to canvass for funds but to allow citizens to make voluntary contributions which would be publicly, acknowledged. Lists for this purpose would be left at the Bank of N.Z., Post Office and Herald Office and Borough Council. Several other minor matters were discussed and the meeting rose.
