DEBATING SOCIETY.

The fortnightly meeting of the local debating society was held in the Good Templar’s Hall last night. There was a good attendance and the Rev. Mr Maslin occupied the chair. A very interesting debate took place on the subject: “Are the .Idren of to-day better mannered than the children of thirty years ago ? " Miss Honore led in the affirmative and was supported by Messrs G. Daniell, Honore and Hotnblow. Mrs Hornblow championed the manners of the children of thirty years ago and was ably backed up by Messrs Hamilton, Chrystall and Burgess. After the chairman had summed up a vote was taken which resulted in ten votes for the affirmative and eleven for the negative. An evening with Dickens will be |the bill-of-fare for the next meeting.
