MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson on Tuesday. Present : Messrs J. G. Wilson (chairman) W. J. Phillips, H. H. Hunt. B. Gray, W. E. Barber, and W. S. Penny, Correspondence was read as follows:
From Mr F. K. Hazlett, Ngahauranga, asking permission to use steam tractor, .with two trail* ers, on the roads near Foxton. From solicitors for Mr Kilsby, calling attention to dam along his property at Oroua Downs, which, having got into disrepair, was causing flooding of property.
From Mr W. Kilsby, asking , permission to put a fence across Puki Puki road at the end of the metal, to prevent stock wandering. An application from Mr W. T,
Sapsford for a slaughtering license was approved and forwarded on to the Department. The following motions were passed : Crs Gray—Barber; That all the roads in the Waitohi, Kawa Kawa, Carnarvon, and Awahou ridings be closed against grazing stock.
Crs Barber—Hunt: That notice be given that all roads in the county are closed against heavy traffic. Crs Barber —Hunt: That the Chairman and Cr Barber sign agreement with Wilson Bros, re construction of road near Foxton, and affix seal of Council to same.
Crs Phillips—Penny; That the Chairman and Cr Barber sign the agreement with the Horowhenua County Council to arbitrate over the Foxtou-Shannon road and affix the seal of the Couhcil to same.
Crs Gray—Barber : That the Railway Department be apr proached with a view to getting permission to run the tram on the Government line between Himatangi and Rangiotu for the purpose of delivering metal for road purposes.
The following alterations were made in the rate roll:—J' Chrystall to E. Vallender, part section 6, Douglas Slock; Mrs A. B. Jagger to Messrs' Boddy and Evans, sections 4 and 5 Kopane estate; Stevens and Johnston to F. S. Easton, section part 362 Carnarvon ; R. Reay to T. Bowe, section 79 Moutoa Block, Foxton; J. L. Harvey to C. T. B. Smith, section part 310 and 312, Carnarvon ; A. D. Clement to F. W. H. Lents, part section 319, Carnarvon.
The treasurer repotted : Bank balances, general account, dr., 2s Bd—'net dr. balance, —Amounts available for expenditure to March 31, 19t5 •’ Sandon, os 2d ; Mount Stewart, A3 ll 8s 3d; Waitohi, lIS 4 d 1 Rongotea, 14s ?d; Carnarvon, 3s 9d; Kawa Kawa, 3d ; Whirokino, 10s gd. The Tramway Manager’s report stated that the traffic was satisfactory, and a credit balance of £6 19s id was made. in expenditure are the following extra items; Brasses for Manawatu, 3s 3d ; extra coal, £*Si repairs to jigger, £7 8s us.sd. The following were the chief items of traffic; Minerals, 120 X tons > merchandise, 176 tons; metal, 1020yds; timber, 40,200 ft. Fares amounted to £4 14s lod. The Overseer reported as follows; Awahou Riding.—Mr C. Petersen has completed his contract for supplying and delivering 479yds of metal on the Foxton-Shannon road, and also 55y ds on Elkin’s Motuiti road, cost of metal and the road could now do with another 500yds of metal to put it in first-class order. We have trimmed up the Palmerston-Fox-ton road with the grader, and have broken down the loose stones. Awahou and Carnarvon Ridings. —We are now supplying metal by special ballast train on the road between Himatangi and Foxton. The amount of metal authorised for this portion oi the main road is 600yds, which will only repair the worst places. To put this length of road in fair order will require not less than 1600yds of metal.
