OBITUARY.
Diphtheria has claimed another victim in the person of Jean, a bright little child of Mr and Mrs McColl, aged iour years and three months. The child took ill last Sanday ( and all that medical skill could devise was done, but the dread disease conquered. In common with the Foxton public we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the parents. We shall miss the dear little kiddie equally*with the parents. Diving next door to our office, Jean was a favourite with the staff, and played and chatted about the place—a pretty vivacious little thing whose bright disposition was like a ray ot sunshine. She always greeted the writer with ; “ Holloa, Mr Kathleen !” We loved her, too, and shall cherish her memory. The luneral took place yesterday, the Rev. J. M. Thomson, M.A., officiated. Among the floral tributes were handsome artificial wreaths from the Druids’ Dodge and Presbyterian Sunday School.
The following letter has been received by Mrs and Mrs McColl, from the Superintendent of the Presbyterian Sunday School;— ‘’Dear Friends, —The terrible news of little Jean’s death only reached me on my return from work this evening, and I take this opportunity of writing you on behalf of the Presbyterian Sunday School to express our deep and sincere sorrow and regret at the terrible loss you have sustained. Dittle Jean was the life and soul of her class in Sunday school, and her cheerful disposition and pleasant manner was like a ray of sunshine wherever she went. She will, indeed, be greatly missed in the Sunday school by teachers and scholars alike. We can understand, therefore, how such a dear child will be missed in your home, and we ask you to believe that we, the teachers and scholars, truly and most deeply sympathise and feel with you in this, your sad loss, and we pray that God may give you strength to bear the blow, but we know that you feel as we feel, that the parting is but for a while, and that iu a future happier state you and we shall meet dear Jean again.
“For and on behalf of the teachers and scholars of Foxton Presbyterian Sunday School, “J. S. Speirs, “Superintendent.”
