FOXTON'S NEW GAS MANAGER.
A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night to consider the applications for the position of gas manager, caused by the retirement of Mr Stunnell. The applications came from all parts of the Dominion to the number of twenty. These were carefully considered and the number reduced to three. Upon a ballot being taken, Mr Hamilton, ol Wanganui, was appointed. The Council conferred with Mr Blackman, of Masterton, this morning, in respect to the proposed enlargement of the works, by erecting new purifiers and retorts. Tenders for these extensions will be called immediately in England and the Dominion.
Mr M. H. Hamilton will take up his duties early next mouth. Mr Hamilton was in the employ of the Auckland Gas Co. for a number of years and has had practical experience in every branch couuected with the manufacture and distribution of gas. As leading hand in the above he had charge ot many important additions to the plant, including the fitting up of retort benches, hydraulic mains, purifiers, etc. He has had experience in laying down mains, and erecting fittings and gas engines, and has had more than his share of experience connected with “consumers complaints.” After leaving Auckland, he took charge of the works at Paeroa and is at present engaged in the spiral steel works at Wanganui. The age of the new manager is 53. The testimonials accompanying Mr Hamilton’s applications are excellent.
