THE BOROUGH BAND.

At the special meeting of the Borough Council last night, a deputation from the Borough Band, consisting of Messrs A. Smith, C. Rand and J. Newtb, was in attendance for the purpose of further discussing the proposed terms under which the Band will be converted into a municipal band.

It will be remembered that the Council recently offered the Band a subsidy of £3° P er annum, one ot the main conditions being that the Band should play outside the Coronation Hall on three Saturday evenings in each month. Mr Smith said that at the last meeting of Band members the matter had been further considered, and all the conditions had been agreed to with the exception of the three Saturday nights per month. They were quite willing to play on two Saturday nights and one Wednesday night per month.

The Mayor and Councillors generally expressed themselves as satisfied with the terms suggested. Mr Newth said the Band would be agreeable to play every alternate Saturday night and one Wednesday night per month, and an agreement is to be drawn up on this basis, commencing from next Saturday night.
