The services in connection with the local Methodist Church tomorrow will be conducted both morning and evening by the Rev W. G. Maslin.
The attendance Shield at the local State School was won this week by Standard V. with an average attendance of gg's per cent.
Master Henry Betlbold, sou u: Mr F, C. Berthold, has been offered and has accepted a cadetship in the Government Insurance Department in Wellington.
An excellent programme ot pictures are to be screened at the town hall this evening, the star drama, “The Shadow of Guilt,” being 2,035 feet in length. A meeting of the sub committee of the local Horticultural Society met last night and revised the Bulb Show catalogue, which will be submitted for approval to the general committee.
Services in the local Salvation Army barracks have been held every morning this week at 6 o’clock, and despite the early hour and the chilly air have been fairly well attended.
The services in the Presbyterian Church to-morrow will be conducted by the minister, Rev, J. M, Thomson, M.A., both morning and evening. The portion from Pilgrim’s Progress for the children will be given as usual in the morning. The most disastrous fire in the annals of Otaki took place at about 1.30 on Friday morning, when the Town Hall (recently enlarged and improved) was burnt to the ground, together with the old Mail office building, the Bank of Australasia, Mr L- St. George’s pharmacy, Nurse Te Au’s offices, Mr Tulloch’s garage, and a shop occupied by Miss Bassett. The dance held in the Matakarapa meeting house last night was very successful from every point of view. There was a large attendance and a very enjoyable time was spent. The committee desire to thank Mr Hemmingson and family and others for their assistance in supplying music, etc. Another dance will be held in about a fortnight’s time, the proceeds from which will be donated to the meeting house funds. The parishioners of All Saints’ are reminded of the farewell conversazione that is being given in the Masonic Hall on Monday night next, the 29th inst. at 8 o’clock, to bid good-bye to the Rev. G. Y. and Mrs Woodward. Parishioners and their friends are very cordially invited to be present. We have been asked to point out that while the above is primarily a send-off by All Saints’ parishioners, all friends of Mr and Mrs Woodward outside the Anglican communion are cordially invited to be present.
The vicar of All Saints’ will take the following services in the parish church to-morrow :—8 a.m. Holy Communion, n a.m. matins and sermon, 2.30 p.m. children’s service, 7 p.m. evensong and sermon. Last Sunday the vicar expressed the wish that those of his parishioners who telt so disposed would join with him in the great sacrament of the altar at 8 a.m. and he also hoped very earnestly that all who have been prepared for Confirmation by him and have been confirmed during his ministry in Foxton will also be present at 8 a.m. Sunday evening will be the last service the Rev. G. Y. Woodward will take as vicar of Foxton,
