ENTERTAINMENTS.

MUNICIPAL PICTURES.

The programme for Saturday evening promises to be a very exciting and interesting one. The star drama, “The Shadow of Guilt,’’ is a sensational Kalem play of intense power, telling of a fight for a millionaire's millions. The story is as follows : —Arnold, secretary to Van Dam, a millionaire, learns that Emily is his employer’s heir. He plans to marry her. The girl loves Doane, however, and repulses the secretary s advances. Van Dam favours Arnold’s suit. He learns of Emily’s love for Doane, and orders the latter from the house. Emily announces her determination to go with her sweetheart. The two are married that night. In rage, the millionaire destroys the will which leaves his fortune to Emily, and makes Arnold his heir. Due to Van Dam’s influence, Doane loses his position. He and Emily are thrown into dire poverty. Arnold, anxious to secure the fortune, tries to poison the millionaire by degrees. Finding his health failing, Van Dam decides to go abroad. Emily, in desperation, appeals to her uncle for aid, but is rudely rebuffed. Van Dam discovers his secretary’s treachery. Confronted with the proof ot his villainy, Arnold fells Van Dam and imprisons him in the garret of the mansion. He then declares that his employer has sailed on the steamer Lantuck. Fate aids the scoundrel. Two days later the papers report that the vessel has gone down with all hands. Doane and Emily are notified to call at the Van Dam mansion for the purpose of hearing the millionaire’s will read. To their dismay, they learn that the entire fortune has been bequeathed to Arnold. While the will is being read, Van Dam tries desperately to free himself of his bonds. The man accidentally upsets an oil lamp, which starts a blaze. Doane accidentally learns of the millionaire’s presence in the garret, and plunges through the raging inferno to save him, Arnold, who attempts to stop the boy, is felled to the floor. Van Dam and his rescuer emerge from the burning building. Arnold recovers, and finds himself trapped. In the midst of the frantic attempts to escape, the roof collapses and buries the wretch beneath a mass of blazing timbers. The other dramas are, “A Timely Interception,’’ and “Stanton’s East Fling” ; the former is an enthralling A.B. feature play, while the latter is one of Edison’s fine appealing dramas, “The Warwick Chronicle,” as usual, will contain all the latest news in illustrated form. “The Trolhatten Falls” is a beautiful Pathe coloured scenic, picturing the famous waters of the Gota river, Sweden. The comics, “Bloomer’s Shortsightedness,” and “Tangled Threads,” are both sure laugh producers.
