WILFUL DAMAGE AND THIEVING.
COUNCIL COMPLAINS. At last night's Council meeting Cr Henderson moved and Cr Coley seconded that the attention of the police be drawn to the wilful damage of unoccupied premises in the way of breaking windows etc., and also to the amount of pilfering that goes on in back yards at present. The mover said that at the present time considerable damage was being done to unoccupied dwellings, in some cases practically all the windows being smashed. There was also a lot of stealing going on and be thought there ought to be a little more supervision. Cr Coley said at the present time a certain part of the Foxton population was living on thieving. These people would steal anything from a spade or a shovel to a 400 gallon iron tank. Fences and firewood also disappeared, in fact anything they could lay their hands on they would take. Complaints had been made to the police but nothing had been done to stop the practice and it was time that some action were taken.
Cr Kempster considered that a night constable should be on duty. There was no necessity for two men to be on duty during the day and it would be better if one were on duty at night. The motion was carried,
