DEPUTATION TO WAIT ON MINISTERS.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO
BE ASKED.
At the meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board, held at Palmerston N. this morning, it was 'decided that a deputation wait on the Prime Minister, and Ministers for Railways and Marine, to ask that the price of the wharf (,£28,000) be reduced to the same basis as the Onehunga wharf (sold by the Government to the Aucklahd Harbour Board), and that extended time for payment of same be made; also that the Railway and Marine Departments be asked tor a grant of £Soo each towards the purchase of a dredge, and an annual grant of towards working same to keep the port open.
The Government is also to be asked to consent to be joined as a party to a Supreme Court action to test the validity of the Railway Department’s action in diverting revenue earned by the port to other uses contrary to the Act. The deputation to consist of two or more members of all local bodies, and chambers of commerce in the district.
