OUR NEW BANK MANAGER.

Mr F. Syraes, Mr Witchell’s successor as local manager of the Bank of New Zealand, has taken control of Foxton’s only banking institution, aud we are only echoing the sentiments of the Foxton public when we extend to him a hearty welcome. If he merits only half the good things the public of Bulls have to say of him, then Foxton is to be congratulated upon having such a worthy successor to the men who have filled the position in the past. Mr Symes’ notice of removal from Bulls was very sudden, and his successor had arrived before he had fully realised what had happened. Within a few hours the Bulls townspeople assembled to express their regret at -Mr Symes’ departure, and to hand him some tangible mark of their esteem. The Rangitikei Advocate gives the following particulars of the function :

The proceedings were presided over by the Rev. J. Blackburn, who in a very happy speech, conveyed the best wishes of those present for the prosperity of Mr and Mrs Symes. During the course of his remarks the chairman alluded to the unpleasantness, such as the present, attaching to a banker’s calling necessitating the parting with friends and severing of social ties, but in this case there remained the pleasant reflection that the change meant promotion to their guest. The chairman then presented Mr Symes, on. behalf of those present, with a travelling rug and dressing case, and a purse of sovereigns for Mrs Symes wherewith .to purchase for herself a memento of the occasion ; after which the health of Mr and Mrs Symes was drunk with musical honours. In acknowledging the presentation, Mr Symes dwelt with much feeling on the happy relations which had subsisted between himself aud the Bank’s clients during his residence in Bulls, and his regret at leaving a place where he and Mrs Symes had formed friendships which would last through life.

Some musical items were rendered and the company joined in sinking “ Auld Lang Syne.”
