HOCKEY.

The local men’s team played Levin B. at Levin yesterday, and suffered defeat by four goals to two.

Although the Foxton players suffered defeat they played a very good game. What they require, however, is more practice, and if they wish to win matches they must get together oftener. Apparently, by defeating Moutoa—last year’s runners-up —some of the players considered that further practice between the matches was unnecessary, for since that win very little practice has been indulged in. All through yesterday’s game the want of practice was very noticeable, the forwards repeatedly fighting among themselves to gain possession of *the ball, and the inner wings were guilty of continually leaving their positions and hindering the wings, while the halves had far too much time for the wings. Hazlett, Woodroofe, and Sheet Bryant played well, while Burgess time and again, made all the others appear like novices, and repeatedly relieved his side by his heady play. The writer would very much like to see players roll up for practice, and thus get some combination. The ladies’ team was defeated on the local ground by Levin by three goals to oil. A report will appear in next issue.
