MUNICIPAL PICTURES,
The programme for Wednesday evening promises to be a most interesting one. The star drama, “The Plot of India’s Hillmen,” is a splendid Kalem story of India, featuring soldiers of the King, being sensational, striking and spectacular. Count Savanoff, a Russian spy, and allied to a tribe of Indian hillmen, becomes the guest of General Melbourne, commandant of a British Army post, and learns that Lieut. Maxam has invented a new explosive, and plans to steal the formula. Maxam’s servant, Zurab, accidentally spills some coffee on Savanoff’s coat. The Lieut, saves his man a beating, thus winning Zurab’s gratitude. Savanoff discovers that Messiah, the General’s servant, is one of the hillmen’s spies. He secures the native’s aid in an attempt to steal the formula. The two are running through Maxam’s room when discovered by the Lieutenant. They overpower and take him to the hills. Zurah follows, and later brings word ot the Lieutenant’s predicament to the GeneralSavanoff and the hillmen plot to entice the British troops to death. Savanoff prepares a large quantity of the explosive and places it along the route planned to lure the troops. The tribesmen encounter the soldiers under General Melbourne who have gone to Maxam’s rescue, and are routed and fall into the trap set for their opponents. Faithful Zurah leads the troops to Maxam’s prison and he is released. The other drama, “The Tiger,’’ is a virile and vigorous Vitagraph. A very choice number of the “Pathe Gazette’’ will be screened. “The Beauties of Venice,” is one of Gaumont’s picturesque coloured scenics. The topical film, “Anniversary Day in Wellington,” will be full of interesting events and well worth seeing. The comics are, “Wiffles and the African Potentate,” and “The Autocrat of Flap-Jack Junction.”
