WEDDINGS.
PEARCE—NEWTH
A very pretty wedding was celebrated in All Saints’ Church yesterday morning, when Stanley James Pearce, son of Mr William Pearce, of Wiltshire, England, was united to Alice Maud, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Mark Newth, well-known settlers of Moutoa. The bride was charmingly attired in white silk, and wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms and carried a pretty bridal bouquet aud also a white satin prayer book. She was given away by her father and was attended by her sister, Miss Newth, who was prettily gowned in white and also carried a bouquet of choice flowers. Mr Pearce, brother of the bridegroom, officiated as best man. The ceremony was performed by the vicar, the Rev G. Y. Woodward, and the organist, Miss Jenks, played the wedding march as the bridal party left the church.
A number of relatives aud friends were subsequently entertained at the residence of the bride’s parents, when the usual felicitous toasts were honoured. The honeymoon is being spent at Wanganui after which Mr and Mrs Pearce will take up their residence in Foxton.
DAVEY —MCDONALD. A very pretty wedding, which attracted considerable interest, took place at Shannon on April 6th. The contracting parties were Miss “Bessie” McDonald, fourth daughter of the late Mr Hugh McDonald, Inverness, Scotland, and Mr Thomas Davey, third son of Mr Thomas Davey, of Canterbury. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev J, A. McKenzie. The church was prettily decorated. Miss Eaurvig officiated at the organ, and played Mendelsson’s Wedding March. The bride, accompanied by her brother, Mr Alex. McDonald, and by whom she was given away, looked exquisite in white crepe de chine trimmed with heavy silk lace, and she wore the orthodox veil and wreath of orange blossoms, the gift of her sister in Sydney. The bridesmaid, Miss. Marion McDonald, sister of the bride, wore a dove-grey dress of silk crepe, a vest ot black satin and white silk lace, and hat to match. The bride and bridesmaid carried shower bouquets, the gift of Miss Newell. Mrs G. R. Hall, sister of the bride, wore a smart robe of saxe blue zolienue trimmed with let-in panels of black satin and oriental trimming, and a black sealelte hat with black plume. Mr R. Johnson officiated as best man. Alter the marriage ceremony the guests were entertained at Nurse Kelly’s residence, “Oratava,” Vauce Street, Shannon. The wedding breakfast was served in a marquee on the lawn. The health of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by the Rev J. A. McKenzie, the bridegroom responding in a neat and feeling speech. In the course of his remarks, the Rev McKenzie spoke of the sacredness of marriage and the benefit to society of good living- The health of the bridesmaid and her sister, Mrs G. R. Hall, was also proposed and honoured. Several ladies and gentlemen contributed musical and vocal items. The presents were numerous and valuable including several cheques. The bride groom’s gift to the bride was a gold bracclet-watch, the bride’s gift to the bride a diamond scar! pin, and the bridegroom's gift to the bridesmaid a silver manicure set. The happy couple left by motor car, amid the good wishes of the guests, en route for Christchurch. The bride’s travelling costume was a Harris tweed, with pretty hat of blue tagel with white plume.
