CARGO BROACHING.

Dunedin, April i.

A case of an unusual nature was heard at the Magistrate’s Court to day, when James Etnbleton and James Timoney, firemen on the Waimate, were charged with having, on March 30th, at Dunedin, embezzled certain ship’s stores from the steamer, comprising twelve bottles of whisky, fourteen bottles of beer, one bottle of brandy and two bottles of wine, of a total value of £s, the property of New Zealand Shipping Company. Both accused pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate characterised the offence as a serious one, rendering the accused liable to twelve mouths’ imprisonment. They would be convicted and sentenced each to fourteen days’ imprisonment. The amount of £2 Bs, the value of the goods, would be deducted equally from the wages of each.
