The first race was rowed in IS4O. This morning the Hon. Mr Fisher was motored out to the Poplar and Whitaunui mills, and made a tour ot inspection of the men’s quarters and up-to-date milling plants. In another column the Town Clerk notifies that the District Electors List is open for alterations. As the election for Mayor as well as an election for Councillor takes place this month it behoves all residents to see that their names are on the Voters List. It will also be seen that a notification is given that a permit must be obtained before any tombstone, coping or fence can be erected at the cemetrey. The attendance at the municipal pictures on Saturday night was above the ordinary, the lower part of the house was packed, and a goodly number were upstairs too. One and all spoke in high terms of praise of the way in which the pictures wpre screened by the new operator. We may state that Mr Leary who is the new operator, is coming here with the highest credentials from Messrs J. Fuller and Sons after putting in over eight years with that firm. The Awahou, with a general cargo from Wellington and the Kennedy, coal laden from Westport, arrived on Sunday morning and the Kairaki with general from Lyttelton made the wharf on Saturday night, after being stuck all day near the bar. They all sailed yesterday, the Kennedy and Awahou for Westport and the Kairaki with sheep for Lyttelton. The Waverley arrived at mid-day yesterday with coal from Westport. The Queen of the South is due to morrow with general from Wellington.
