Mr John Redmond presided at the Nationalists’ St. Patrick’s Day banquet at the Hotel Cecil. He said any permanent partition of Ireland would be an outrage to nature and history whereto the Irish leaders would never acquiesce. In the absence of a political earthquake Home Rule would be the law of the laud and probably in its present form. The Government’s efforts for conciliation had been a failure. The extemists on both sides deliberately misrepresented the Government’s efforts. Mr Redmoud concluded ; “ The automatic ending of any period of exclusion is lor the Nationalists an immutable principle and our latest word is that if force is interposed it will be met with force.”
