LEVIN-GREATFORD RAILWAY.
TRIAD SURVEY PROMISED
One of the matters brought before the Hon. W. H. Herries at Eevio on Saturday, was the question of linking up the railway betweeu Devin and Greatlord. The deputy-mayor of Devin (Cr Blenkhorn) said it was an important matter, and had been placed before the Minister’s predecessors, but they had got no satisfaction, though he believed that one had promised a trial survey. He thought it a good scheme and the saving of sixteen miles between the terminals of the line was of more than local importance. To the man in the street there appeared to be no engineering difficulties. It would open up a large tract of fertile country, and would relieve the traffic on the line, as it would bring Devin into touch with the port of Foxton. In replying the Minister said they could not expect him to give a promise right away, but he would submit what was said to the Cabinet. The matter of building the railway was one for the Minister ot Public Works, but he could promise then that a trial survey would be carried out.
