CRICKET CARNIVAL.
There was not a very large attendance at the cricket carnival in Victoria Park yesterday afternoon, bnt those who did attend enjoyed a good afternoon’s sport. The chief item on the programme was the cricket match, ladies v. men, the majority of the latter appearing iu fancy costumes. The men had to bat, bowl and field left handed. The ladies team, tfcvbich was “skipped” by Mr Whibley, baited first and put on the very fair total of 57, of which Miss Hawke contributed 17 and Miss M. Wanklyn 13. The men, under the conditions set out, were uot equal to the task set them, being disposed of for 46. The best catch of the day wa« brought off by Miss Hawke who caught and bowled Hislop. The catch was a fairly hot one, but Miss Hawke held it. The following are the scores:—

Relay race. Negus, Burgess, and Hislop i. Boys’ race.—Joe Williams i, W. Kruse 2, Girls’ race. —Eileen Robinson 1, Ida Dankin 2. Throwing cricket ball. C. Burgess 1, G. Westwood 2. Tug-ot-war.—'Kelt, Westwood, Furrie, Hawke, Hamer, Gow, Bryant 1. As a result of the carnival the funds of the cricket club will benefit to the extent of from to £ 6. A social and dance will be held in the Masonic Hall to night, when the trophies won yesterday will be presented. A number of vocal items, step-dances, etc., will be given, and altogether an enjoyable time is promised.
On Saturday the local cricketers will meet Shannon at Shannon. The following team will represent Foxton : Hawke, Burgess, Cook, Tullett, Mullins, Stiles, Whibley, Cleland, Young, Claris and Hollington. Emer., McEwan and Hislop.
