A LETTER.
MELANESIAN MISSION
My Dear Parishioners. Right out at the front the Bishop of Melanesia and his staff of clergy are gallantly fighting to win the heathen in the Islands of the Pacific to the Faith of Jesus Christ. These soldiers of the cross are in great danger of their lives, and are subject to acute sickness from tropical fevers. They are far away from each other in distant islands, alone in the great wilderness of the sea, and they know only too well what isolation, lack of fellowship and disappointment mean. On Sunday next, all over New Zealand in the Anglican communion, a special collection is to be taken up for the express purpose of sending out more men to be a comfort to those out in the lonely outposts, and to help them to shed the light of the gosnel on those who still live in the darkness of ignorance. Last year we sent from All Saints’ the sum of 12s 3d. I am hoping we shall reach this amount again, but it will mean that we shall all have to do our best on Sunday and give liberally. Whatever you give, it is a gift straightout to the Master, and a spreading of the Kingdom of Christ in the islands of the sea. What a privilege to have the opportunity ot obeying the last charge of the Master: “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,” Your affectionate vicar., G. Y. Woodward.
