CRICKET.

Yesterday a match was played at Eevin between teams representing Porirua and Horowhenua, resulting in a win for the visitors by 41 runs on the first innings. Porirua batted first and compiled 79, of which Windley scored 32 not out. Horowhenua replied with 38, Butterworth played right through the innings for 17 not out. In their second innings Porirua made 90, Windley again scoring well, putting on 30. Requiring 132 to win, Horowhenua commenced their second, and when stumps were drawn had put on 79 for the loss of six wickets of which Young had notch ed 21 not out.

The Foxton members of the Horowhenua team, Cook, Wilkes and Tullett were not very successful with the bat, in the first innings each one being dismissed tor a blob. Cook scored two in the second innings, Wilkes seven and Tullett eight.

The commencement of Horowheuua’s first innings was disastrous, the first five wickets falling tor three runs.

On Saturday Eevin will play Shannon at Shannon in the Shield competition.
