THE FLAX INDUSTRY.

NEW AWARD WANTED

ABORTIVE CONFERENCE

The term of the award under which the flaxmills employees’ are at present working expired on March 31st last, and recently the Union formulated demands for a new award, the rates of pay of which are a decided advance on those of the old award. A conference of representatives of the Union and the Association was held on Saturday morning to endeavour to arrive at an agreement. After two and a half hours’ deliberations no agreement was arrived at, although the proceedings were conducted in a friendly spirit. The next move will be an appeal to the CouciH •■>ll Council or the Arbitration Couit.
