MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Tuesday. Present: —Crs J. G. Wilson, J. Henson, H. H. Hunt, W. E. Barber, R. B. McKenzie, W. J. Phillips, and B. Gray. Correspondence was read as follows: — From Horowhenua County Council, agreeing to the appointment of Mr S. A. R. Mair as arbitrator on the question of maintenance of Foxlou-Shannon road. From MrD. Knewstub, Foxton, asking permission to impound stock. GENERAI, BUSINESS. Mr Knewstub was given authority to impound stock. The following alteration was made in the rate roll: —H. L. Harvey to H. S. Townsend, lots 3 and 4, sections 310-312, Carnarvon. Mr S. Mair, engineer for the Rangitikei County Council, was appointed the Council’s representative iu connection with the dispute with the Horowhenua County Council over the Foxton-Shannon road, and the clerk was authorised to have the necessary papers drawn up. The proposal of the Foxton Borough Council for the straightening of Purcell street was agreed to. treasurer’s report. General account, dr., ,£571 12s qd ; loan account, cr., ,£169 15s id; net dr. balance, ,£4Ol 17s 3d. Amounts available for expenditure : Rongotea riding Ss 7<d, Carnarvon 4s 3d, Whirokino subdivision 3s 7d. Overexpended; Sandou 8s 1 id, Mt. Stewart 2s Sd, Waitohi ,£73 7s id, Kawa Kawa ,£296 7s 1 id, Awahou ,£l9O is 3d. TRAMWAY MANAGER’S REPORT. The traffic for January was good, and a credit balance of ,£ll2 18s 6d was made. The chief items of traffic were : Merchandise 172JJ tons, timber 18,400 feet, grass seed 138J2 tons, wool 1,115 bales, sheep aud pigs 25 trucks, fares 15s 4d. The special trams ruu in connection with the Foxton races were w r ell patronised. The overseer reported on the Awahon riding as follows ;—The ordinary road maintenance work has been done on the FoxtonShanuon aud Kari Kari roads. I have let the cleaning out of drain on No. 2 Line to T. Triggell, for the sum of 3s per chain. The work has been completed satisfactorily. I have also let the drain cleaning on the Whirokino road to the same man for the sum of 2s 6d per chain. The following tenders for road contracts were accepted : Contract No. 176, C. H. Peterson, 4s 6d ; IS4, C. Peterson, 8s ud aud 10s 6d; 185, C. Peterson ss.
