W. T. YOUNG'S APPEAL.
AGAINST HIS CONVICTION. Wellington Fast Night. The hearing of the appeal from the decision of Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., in the case of Williau Thomas Young, President of the Federation of kabottr, was commenced at the Supreme Court this morning before Sir Robert Stout. The charges by the Magistrate were that Young—(l) Incited persons to commit a breach of the peace ; and (2) Incited persons , to resist constables. The Magistrate, in his judgment (given on December 4) convicted defendant and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment. The defendant was also ordered to enter into a bond of and find two sureties of each that he would keep the peace for twelve months. Upon an appeal being made by Mr T. M. Wilford defendant, pending the hearing of the appeal, was allowed out on bail. The next day he was committed ou a charge of having uttered seditious words, bail being granted. Mr T. M. Wilford, with him Mr P. J. O’Regan, appeared in support of the appeal, and Mr H. H. Ostler, Crown Solicitor, on behalf of the Crown. After hearing argument, his Honour reserved his decision.
