CRICKET.

-Yesterday afternoon a team of Wednesday players from Levin visited Foxton and played a local team on the Park pitch. The weather was ideal for cricket. Foxton won the toss and elected to bat, Howe and Tullett opening to the bowling of Young and Horn. They started badly Howe being bowled with the score at 4, and the second wicket falling at 14. Tullett was batting well and the score was carried to 29 before the third wicket fell. The fourth fell without any addition to the score, fifth at 34, the sixth at 44, and the seventh at 56. Here Wilkes got going and gave a very good display, punishing anything loose but treating with respect all balls that looked dangerous. The score was carried to 82 before the eighth wicket fell. The next two wickets were responsible for 36 runs, the ninth falling at 100 and the last at 118. Wilkes score was 43. Levin opened very carefully, the scoring being slow. The first two wickets fell with the total at 19, and the third four runs later. Young, who went in first wicket down, played a really fine uphill game and kept his end up throughout the innings. At 36 the fourth man was disposed of and at 44 three wickets fell, Howe doing the hat trick. He bowled Keys with the first ball of the over, Judd was caught by Hislop off the second ball and the same fieldsman brought off a very fine catch which disposed of Simpson off the third ball. The remaining vyickets fell as follows : the eighth at 61, ninth at 70 and the last at 75. Foxton thus won by 43 runs. The following are the scores : Foxton.
