MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS* Tbe Clerk of the Court, Mr F. Woods, has supplied us with the following returns of the business of the local Magistrate's Court for the quarter ended December 31st, 1913: , . . During the quarter three sittings were presided over by the Magistrate, and eight by Justices, civil,. Sixty-three civil cases were heard by the Magistrate. The amount sued for was £517 13s Sd, and the amount recovered ,£428 19s 4d. The number of plaints entered was 79 ; 6 distress warrants were issued, 17 judgment summonses, 7 orders made, 80 summonses served by the bailiff, and 8 distress warrants executed. The amount oi civil fees was .£24 17s od. CRIMINAL. Fifteen males and two females were taken into custody or summoned, one male was discharged on the merits, 11 males and one female were fined, in the cases of two males and one female oiders were made, and one male was convicted and discharged. Tbe fines amounted to £6 16s. OLG-AGE PENSIONS. Five old-age pensions were granted.
