FOXTON RACECOURSE.
A public meeting fur the purpose of receiving the report and 'balance-sheet of the trustees ol the Manawatu (Foxton) Racecourse, was held in the Racing Club office on Tuesday afternoon. Mr J, Kebbell, chairman ot trustees, presided. The following report was read: —“The trustees beg to report that the balance in hand on March 31st, 1913, was £9 13s 3d, which, with the rent received since August 1 st, less payments for advertising Bs, makes the amount now in the Post Office Savings Bank 5s 3d. No demand for the accounts has been made by the Auditor-General since March 31st, 1.911, so that for two years there has been na audit, but the Trustees have gone through the accounts and can vouch for the correctness of same. Since the last public meeting, in accordance with a resolution passed, the ,trustees have had the racecourse reserve surveyed, and find that there is an area of acres between the railway line and the road, belonging to the racecourse, which can be leased or planted. We have obtained the lease from Messrs Hankins and LockhartFitzherbert, and it can now be perused.” The report was adopted. The question of negotiating for the freehold of the racecourse was brought up, the Chairman expressing the opinion that it was a matter for the Foxton ratepayers to decide whether any objection should be raised- It was pointed out that the present lease would not expire until 1918, and the matter was afterwards allowed to drop.
