THE HOLIDAY.

The attractions for New Year’s Day are the Friendly Societies Sports to be held in Victoria Park, a visit to the Foxton Beach and the Marton Races, Given a continuance of the present perfect weather there will no doubt be a record crowd at the seaside. Two special trains are to arrive on Thursday, from Feilding and Palmerston North, arranged by the Friendly Societies Council to convey visitors to the picnic and sports and a number ot these will take the opportunity of spending a day at the Beach. Those who prefer the excitement of a race meeting are catered for by the running of a special train from Foxton to the Marton races, leaving at 8 o’clock in the morning and arriving back at 9.50 p.m.
