FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
A meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was held at Palmerston North on Monday last. Present: —Messrs P. Hennessy (Chairman), Clapbam, Jenks and Barber. treasurer's report. The treasurer reported the amount to credit at Bank of New Zealand at £691 17s 3d, included in which was £roo contributed towards the erection of a jetty, and against which there were unpresented cheques for £63 is, being tor contribution to road paid to Manawatu County Council and Foxton Borough Council, and for the Chairman’s honorarium. He estimated the loss to the Board for pilotage and lighting through the closing ot the port at over £7O. The receipts and expenditure since last meeting were:—Receipts; Balance at Bank at last meeting £623, pilotage £lB3 18s 6d, river lighting £53. rents, etc. £77 17s id, contribution to road £7 17s 3d, sundries £8 tos, contributions to jetty £IOO, total £1,054 23 tod. Expenditure : Harbourmaster’s salary £ll6 13s 4d, maintenance of pilot station (including new pilot house, new signal mast and fitting) £4B us lod, goods (including benzine and kerosene) £32 13s 1 id. labour assisting pilot, etc. £lB 6s, members’ travelling expenses £27 6s 3d, elections £49 4s Bd, iusurance (accident and fire) £8 11s 7d, legal expenses £ll 13s nd, secretary’s salary £35, sundries, rent of phone, etc., £l4 3s gd, total £362 5s 3d, leaving a balance to credit of £691 17s 3d. All rents have been collected. It will be necessary to fix contribution to road for 1914. PURCHASE OP WHARF.
The question of the purchase of the wharf was further discussed iu committee, the Chairman submitting lor the Board’s approval, the offer in connection with the purchase of the wharf made by him to the Railway Department. The following letter was read from the Minister of Railways in connection with the matter: —“ I am in receipt of your letter forwarding, on behalf of the Foxton Harbour Board, an offer for the purchase of the Foxton wharf. In reply I beg to inform you that the particulars contained in your letter are noted, and will have careful consideration. As soon as I am iu a position to do so, I will again communicate with you on the subject. A later telegram was also read from the Minister stating that the matter would be dealt with as early as possible. A letter from Mr E. Newman, M.P. was also read in which he assured the Board that as far as possible the proposal would receive his support and he trusted that it would be successful in acquiring the wharf. A telegram from Mr J. Robertson M.P., advised that he had seen the Hon. Mr Herries who stated that Cabinet had not yet considered the Board’s offer. Also that the Bill was to come on the following morning and advising, under the circumstances, its withdrawal in the meantime. He also advised that the Department’s offer in connection with the sale of the wharf would hold good. while negotiations were proceeding. It was decided on the motion of Mr Barber seconded by Mr Jenks, that the action of the chairman in connection with the purchase of the wharf be confirmed. the jetty. The secretary reported that the Jetty Committee had, as arranged lodged the sum of ,£IOO with the Board towards the cost of the jetty. Tenders had been called and one at £l3O accepted. Arrangements had since been made for some minor alterations which would bring the cost of the work up to The work was now in hand and well on towards completion. He suggested that a committee be set up to draft regulations for the use of the jetty. He suggested that the committee should be comprised of an equal number of members from the Board and Jetty Committee. —It was decided on the motion of the chairman seconded by Mr Clapham, that a committee be appointed to draft regulations for the control of Jetty at Te Wharangi, comprised of the Chairman and Messrs Jenks and Barber and three members to be appointed by the Palmerston Jetty Committee. GENERAL. The contribution towards road by tenants at the Beach was fixed at 12s 6d each for the ensuing year,The following transfers of sections were approved: P. Robert to C. T. Flyger, Mrs C. A. Wilson to G. T. Woodroofe and P. Robinson to J. E. Perrin.
