The services in All .Saints’ Church on Christmas Day will be : 7 a.m., and 8 a.m., Holy Communion, ii a.m., Matins and Holy Communion, and in the evening, at 7 o’clock, a carol service will be held. The collections throughout the day will be given to the Palmerston District Hospital. The appearance of Mr Frank May and Miss Milliceut Mowbray in their illustrated ballads, at the Municipal Pictures on Saturday night, provided an extra attraction, and was keenly appreciated by the large audience. Mr J. McCoombs, in returning tbanks to the electors of Lyttelton for returning him, prefaced his remarks by reading two telegrams received by him from Mr Semple and Mr Robertson, M.P. Mr Semple’s telegram was as follows : —“May the Red flag fly at the top of the mast.” That from Mr Robertson read : “We hope everyone opposed to tyranny of vested interests, and who uphold the right of the democracy will show Massey that the ballot is more powerful than the baton.” A former resident of Tokomaru, Mr Robert Griffiths Perreau, was one ot the successful applicants for the twenty free blocks of land offered to settlers in the Northern Territory by the Federal Government. Mr Perreau has written thus to a Sydney newspaper:— “ I have been alloted a r6t6-acre block, comprising agricultural and pastoral laud, described as of an easy, undulating character, permanently watered by the south branch of the Finiss river, the surface water of which is plentiful and good. I was the only successful applicant from New Zealand in the first ballot, the other nineteen blocks being granted to Australians. lam taking my wife and eight children the eldest of whom is under twelve years of age. lam thirty-seven myself, and feel that if enterprise and pluck will carry through in the Northern Territory, lam bound to succeed.” Mr M. Perreau, of Foxton, is a brother of Mr R. G. Perreau.
