NEWS AND NOTES.

When the strike was at its height in Auckland, three of the Red Federationists had wandered near the “specials" lines, and one had boasied in a loud voice that be would fight any three “ specials.” Only one man responded. He was a big man — one of a big family. He said that he would fight all three Red Feds., and after he had knocked them out, he pulled a sovereign out of bis pocket and offered it to anyone game enough to say “ Scab !" but there was no response.

The late Mr J. H. Choate was one of America's ablest ambassadors. Once when staying at a country house au affected talkative lady was passing him an egg, when suddenly she let it fall. “ Oh, dear, dear Mr Choate, I’ve dropped au egg. Whatever shall I do?" “Do!" replied Choate, with an impassive expression. “ Why, just start cackling, madam !’’

When Royalties marry, one is apt to think the presents always consist solely of something which is either of silver or of gold, or else a rare gem. It is interesting to be informed by the Dresden Piano Company, Limited, that among the wedding presents of their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess Arthur of Connaught were two Stein way pianos. One of these came from T.R.H. the Duke and Duchess of Connaught; the other from the Canada Club. Such a sensible example ought surely to be followed here. Marriage would then have its immediate substantial advantages, apart from the sentimental and domestic attractions which are ever inseparable from it.

Get your piano where you can rely on quality and value. Hundreds of people are taking advantage of the Dresden Piano Company’s time payment system; and shipment upon shipment of pianos and organs is coming in month after month. “The Dresden” with over thirty years of experience, and a remarkable turnover, is ever able to sell the best goods at the lowest market rate. But it is not satisfied with merely gaining a new customer; it aims at making another business friend—and usually does so. Now, with the Dresden Piano Co, Ltd., absolute quality is guaranteed. Every piano issued is perfect material and workmanship. Where will you find better instruments than the Broadwood, the Lipp, the Ronisch and the Steinway —they are indeed four great pianos ! Or two finer organs than The Bell and The Imperial—they are incomparable ! You should certainly either call on or write to the Dresden Piano Co. Ltd., Wellington. North Island Manager: M. J. Brookes.
