LAST NIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT.
We regret space precludes us from giving a detailed report of the splendid entertainment given by a company of Palmerston N. amateurs —“the Jesters” —in aid of funds for the erection of a jetty at the Heads, at the Town Hall last night. The attendance was not only disappointing but a decided reflection on Foxton’s lack of appreciation of the sacrifices other people are prepared to make in respect to popularising the seaside resort and which should be under* taken locally. To say we are disappointed with the wretched public response, is the mildest expression we can use, and we tender our apologies to our Palmerston friends for local public indifference. Anyhow, those present enjoyed a feast of good things and they were unstinted in their applause, nearly every item being deservedly encored. Those who contributed to the programme were : Misses Grace Taylor* May Calvert, Justine Whitehead, Pauline Flemming and Pearl Dahl, Messrs Chris. Haydon, Wm. and J. Y. Oliver, W. Johnston and Charlie Taylor. Mr J. Whitehead officiated as musical director and Mr' W. Oliver as stage manager. The Borough Brass Baud and Mr Ebbett’s orchestra contributed several much appre* dated selections. Mr Holbeit thanked all who had in any way assisted in the concert, particularly mentioning the Mayor. The net - proceeds will not total /10.
