PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATES.

The results of the proficiency examination which took place at the local State school recently, came to hand yesterday. Hope Mackie (709) topped the candidates, with John Andrew (647) and John Hornblow (646) next in order of merit. Others who gained proficiency certificates were :—Baden Barnett, William Baker, Clarence Coley, Leslie McAllister, Hugh Ruscoe, Arthur Thompson, George Walsh, Allan Walls, Clifford Walker, Dulcie Hawke, Avis Stiles. The following gained competency certificates: —William Easton, Sybil Bright, and Vera Crowe.

Henry Robinson (not on the school roll) gained a proficiency, and Edward Pratt a competency. Out of twenty-one scholars presented, fourteen gained proficiency certificates, three competency, and four failed.
