TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.
The Town Clerk submitted the following report on the working ot the borough for the past mouth, at last night’s Council meeting ■ I beg to report that the Council’s men have been engaged as under during the past month, viz., cleaning footpaths and waterchannels in Main street, Avenue road, Whyte street, Wharf and Clyde streets; repairing with metal, Park road, Johnston, Coley and Gladstone streets, Moutoa road, and No- 6 Line ; spreading metal on Avenue footpath, repairing kerbing in Whyte street, fencing Johnston street and Coley street junction, attending to Triangle flower beds, etc., grading in Main and Harbour streets, and spreading metal in Harbour street, and mixing asphalt in yards for Union street footpath. In contemplation of an overdraft on the general account at the end of the financial year, only works of immediate importance are now being attended to. During the month a tender was let to Mr H. F. Strong for the painting and repairs to the Council’s cottage at £7 12s 6d. On December 4th, a meeting of the Library Committee was held, when Messrs Stiles, Chrystall, Barber and Freeman were present. It was resolved for the future to bold the Library Committee meeting at 7 o'clock on the ordinary Council meeting night. A dozen new books were selected by the Committee, and it was decided that tor the future the custodian need not account for the waste paper sold. I may state that all outstanding rates have been placed in the hands of the Council’s solicitor for collection at the next sitting of the S.M. Court.
