MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mauawatu County Council was held at Sandou on Tuesday, Present; Crs. ]. G. Wilson, W. J. Phillips, J. Henson, H. H. Hunt, W. Barber, B. Gray and R. B. McKenzie.
Correspondence was read as follows
From Department of Lands and Survey, forwarding plans of subdivisions south of Himatangi block and north of Mauawatu river.
From Mr K. Newman, M.F., fot warding reply of Minister of Railways in regard to Railways Amendment Bill. The reply, which dealt with level crossings, stated the clause objected to by the Council bad been struck out, and the Railway Department would make its own arrangements with local bodies who wanted crossings.
The following alterations were made on the rate roll: E. P. Eevien to R. T. Bell, Wangawhera Block ; C. F. Johnston to J. Wilson, Foxton ; same to A. Simpson, Foxton ; Robinson Bros, to Coley and Bock, to J. Collinson, to G. Brewer, to G. T. Woodroofe, to G. Coley, to C. Brewer, to A. S. Easton, to F. S. Easton, to G. Edwards and to G. Coley, all in Foxton. On the motion of Crs. McKenzie and Hunt, the chairman and clerk were authorised to sign the debenture and coupon form in connection with the loan for from the Public Trustee for Hospital buildings, and to affix the seal of the county thereto. The overseer reported that the road grader has been employed during the last mouth trimming up Nos. 1,2 and 6 lines, and also the Whirokiuo road and a portion of the Foxtou-Shaunon road. The grading work being completed, I have hired the grader to the contractors for grading up the Kawa Kawa road.
The tramway manager reported that owing to the strike the receipts were greatly reduced, and a debit balance of ,£lO 2s id was made. The receipts were nearly ,£IOO less than those for the same month last year. The repairs to the locomotive, “Rangitikei” are well under way, and should be finished at an early date. The new engine driver starred duties on 24th instant. The guard (Mr Wallace) resigned at the beginning on the mouth and Mr Tostevin has been appointed..
